IGEL integrates Microsoft RD Gateway into Linux thin clients

IGEL-Technology-LogoUK, September 26, 2014: With the latest firmware update for IGEL Linux users can now access their RDP environment via a Microsoft Remote Desktop Gateway when using Linux-based thin clients. This can be done easily and conveniently via the Internet, cutting administrative time whilst increasing security.

The IGEL Linux firmware means it is now possible to connect directly via the Internet to the RDP environment behind an RD Gateway using Linux-based IGEL thin clients (x86). With a VPN tunnel no longer necessary, the connection runs via HTTPS, allowing administrators to monitor traffic via upstream firewalls and forward it to the relevant destination. This means users when offsite have a secure and simple way to access elements of the virtual infrastructure at headquarters – whether terminal services, virtual desktops (VDI) or workstations.

In addition to the integrated RD Gateway, the new IGEL Linux release also contains updates for virtually all IGEL-supported clients such as Citrix, VMware, Red Hat, Fabultech and Quest. Furthermore, the latest version (1.4.103) of the Citrix Lync 2010 Optimization Kit is integrated. This offers a range of features including webcam redirection. Naturally, all Windows Embedded Standard 7-based thin clients from IGEL already offer the Microsoft RD Gateway function.
