Vijay Shekhar Sharma, CEO of Paytm, said “The new category is apart of a slew of initiatives to make our mobile marketplace the go-to destination for all shopping needs. Given the festive season which is round the corner, we expect significant traction in this category in the coming days.”
Paytm launched its mobile marketplace earlier this year and has since then brought on board a large number of merchants who have listed over 10 million items across various categories. These include men, women and kids’ fashion, personal grooming, accessories and home furnishing. It recently also tied up with Digital Empowerment Foundation to empower self-help groups and micro-enterprises across diverse clusters including textile, weaving and handicrafts.
