EMC enables hybrid cloud solutions in India

EMC to target 200 cloud customer deployments in 12 months for its cloud solutions across Asia Pacific and Japan

Rajesh-JaneyBangalore, India, October 13, 2014: EMC Corporation has announced collaboration with cloud service providers Netmagic and Sungard AS, as part of a larger effort to target the cloud market opportunity in India, which is estimated to be $1 Billion by 2015 according to Greyhound Research. EMC is working with each cloud service provider to offer customers a consolidated, customer-focused approach to designing, architecting, and running a hybrid cloud to deliver the speed and agility of public cloud services, with the control and security of private cloud infrastructures. The collaboration will focus on customers in manufacturing, healthcare, retail, BFSI and IT/ ITES sectors.

According to Sanchit Vir Gogia, Chief Analyst and Group CEO of Greyhound Research, “The addressable Cloud market in India is expected to hit the $1 billion mark by 2015. This massive growth is being driven by the advent of social, mobile, analytics, and cloud (SMAC) and its quick transition from being a mere buzzword to impacting the delivery of business outcomes for enterprises. SMAC is helping organizations reduce their CAPEX, enhance customer engagement, increase productivity and work on outcomes that matter to business. Most CIO’s today recognize this change and are talking about using technology that drives real business outcomes, the key to which is successful collaboration between service providers and IT vendors.”

Cloud Service Providers and IT organizations are wedged between two binary choices: the speed and agility of public cloud services, and the control and security of private cloud infrastructure. Through working with these cloud service providers, EMC is enabling IT to quickly, easily, and cost-effectively build a hybrid cloud that embodies the best of both worlds where almost all applications will live to make IT more efficient and agile and cost-effective.

Collaboration with Netmagic combines Netmagic’s SimpliCloud, their public cloud offering, an enterprise-grade IaaS (Infrastructure as-a-Service) cloud platform with EMC hybrid cloud and VMware virtualization solutions, helping customers accelerate and enable their journey to hybrid cloud.

In addition, EMC will power the Sungard AS Recovery-as-a-Service offering for disaster recovery. This offering from Sungard AS, a leading provider of information availability through managed IT, cloud and recovery services, provides customers in the enterprise market with SLA-driven services to optimize the uptime, productivity and efficiency of their IT operations.

According to Gartner ‘More recently, rapid cloud adoption by a range of organizations has encouraged providers to invest in high-quality data centers and innovative cloud infrastructures and services. Typical use cases for the cloud in India include disaster recovery as a service, e-business Web hosting, industry-specific applications and collaboration. Factors driving cloud adoption include a rapidly expanding landscape of providers and offerings, more competitive pricing, e-governance requirements, and new legislation protecting personal information, which will encourage people to adopt personal clouds. Barriers to widespread adoption include concerns about connectivity, security, reliability, availability, compliance and data ownership, especially among large organizations. Most current projects are private clouds, although some organizations plan to move to hybrid clouds in the future. As content moves to the cloud, the cloud will become the main storage area for personal information and material.

India is a high-growth market for EMC, and EMC India is a leading contributor of innovations and revenue growth for the APJ region. EMC’s operations in India are multi-dimensional – which is common to very few of its markets around the world. Today, EMC addresses over 3800+ customers in India.

David Webster President, Asia Pacific and Japan, Senior Vice President, EMC “EMC has been at the forefront of translating vision into reality for our customers. Today’s announcement is a step toward ensuring our customers are able to leverage the power of cloud to meet their specific business requirements. Our objective is to make it simpler for IT organizations to deploy well-run hybrid clouds in a matter of days, and providing the same or even better agility and efficiency benefits to public clouds.”

Rajesh Janey, President, India and SAARC EMC, said,  “Cloud has a particular strategic importance in the Indian market. As per our 2014 EMC Survey with IT decision makers, around three quarters of the IT decision makers in India (76%) believe that a combination of public and private cloud services allows for a higher level of agility and security, and 31% have already deployed hybrid cloud”.

“Our strategic alliance with service providers will enable us to transform IT for our customers and offer the best of breed solutions today and into the future. Our combined hybrid cloud proposition enables our customers to adopt a true IT as a Service model and change the way they run IT. With the huge market opportunity in front of us and 76% of our customers looking to implement hybrid cloud solutions, we are looking at a bullish roadmap to be one of the top 3 players in India in hybrid cloud segment by 2017”.
