EnterpriseDB interprets the placement of EDB in the Leaders Quadrant is part of a significant shift in the competitive landscape among database vendors. The four largest traditional vendors – Oracle, Microsoft, SAP and IBM – are no longer the sole representatives of marketplace leaders as identified by Gartner in its periodic survey of database vendors.
The recognition comes as Postgres gathers greater momentum with global brands accepting Postgres’ growing technical prowess while simultaneously seeking to divert the high license and maintenance fees paid to traditional databases to more strategic IT objectives. EDB now counts among its customers 64 of the Fortune 500 list of the largest US companies and 111 of the Forbes Global 2000 list of the largest companies in the world. Also in 2014, EDB forged a major partnership with Infor, the third-largest enterprise resource planning software vendor, and deepened its relationship with longtime partner IBM.
“Our position in the Leaders Quadrant is a watershed for EDB and for Postgres.
